Got an exciting new business idea? 4 ways the Entrepreneurs’ Programme can help it grow

The Entrepreneurs’ Programme is a federal government initiative aimed at helping Australian businesses innovate and grow.

It offers flexible and tailored support through four elements, which are detailed below.

  1. Accelerating commercialisation

The Entrepreneurs’ Programme provides advice to overcome the challenges of commercialising new products, processes, and services.

A grant will fund up to 50 percent of an eligible project cost up to $1 million.

  1. Business management

This covers business evaluation, growth service support, supply chain facilitation, and tourism partnerships.

In particular, this arm of the Entrepreneurs’ Programme includes a business growth grant of up to $20,000 (with a matched 50 percent co-contribution) to embed additional capability in your business.

To be eligible for this grant, you must have received a completed Business Evaluation Action Plan and be operating in one of the following growth areas of business:

  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Food and agribusiness
  • Medical technologies and pharmaceuticals
  • Mining equipment, technology and services
  • Oil, gas and energy resources

Note that this grant specifically supports strategies that improve the abilities and skills of your business.

Once these business-specific strategies are identified in a Business Evaluation Action Plan, action items are put into place that could include:

  • Development of a strategic plan
  • Development of a marketing plan
  • Financial management review (such as financial management reporting, financial analysis, etc.)
  • Operational review
  • Systems analysis
  • Development of an integrated performance appraisal development programme

Applications for the Business Growth Grant via the Entrepreneurs’ Programme are currently open.

  1. Incubator support

This provides assistance to new and existing incubators to improve the prospects of Australian start-ups achieving commercial success in international markets.

  1. Innovation connections

This is a facilitated service to help businesses identify their research needs and opportunities, and to connect with sources of expertise, technology, and advice.

Matched funding grants of up to $50,000 are also available to access research capability in the form of researcher placements.
