A little fundraising goes a long way
Late last year, the Walker Wayland network held a competition to choose a series of photographs that best depict the region and environment in which member firms operate.
The best entry from each firm was submitted to the network’s national team liaison group and one photograph was chosen for the cover of the calendar. The calendar was printed and sold to network members.
This was a great team building exercise. However, the most significant reason for this great campaign was to raise funds to help the victims of the catastrophic earthquakes that shattered the tiny nation of Nepal in April 2015.
WWA Chairman John Dorazio explains how the fundraising element of this project was born.
“During the BKR Asia Pacific Conference in Chengdu, China, in May 2015 I had a conversation with our BKR member from Nepal who told me how his family and the staff at his business were affected by the earthquake and its aftershocks. One of his staff was killed and many among his family, friends and colleagues were injured. The effect it continued to have on the country was immense.
“I retold this story to my colleagues and we decided that the funds from the sale of this calendar will go to assist the people of Nepal.”
The funds were presented to our colleagues from BKR in Nepal during the WWA National Conference in Perth earlier this year.
We were humbled to recently receive news that our contribution helped support the reconstruction of EDUC. EDUC is a school in Kathmandu that provides a free education to underprivileged children from the Basundhara squatters’ area who would not otherwise go to school. Each day the students of EDUC are given a hot lunch, clean drinking water, uniforms, health checks and school supplies.
SRJ Walker Wayland Managing Director Jason Croston says “This fundraising campaign encapsulates SRJ Walker Wayland’s strong sense of community and social responsibility. We are very proud to be part of a network that cares for, and supports one another in times of need.”
